GPG
I use GPG (Gnu Privacy Guard) for email encryption. GPG is an OpenPGP implementation. If you would like to send me an encrypted email, my public key can be found at https://keybase.io/shaunabram. I also have some keybase invites available, if you are interested.
I’d like to encrypt all of my emails, but of course most folks don’t use it. Still, I use it when I can, and insist on using it when sending financial or other confidential information.
If you are interested, and you are a mac user, I recommend the aptly titled “The best PGP tutorial for Mac OS X, ever“.
I have keyboard shortcuts setup, via
Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> Services -> OpenPGP.
Including:
- Decrypt Selection: ⌃⌥⌘-
- Encrypt Selection: ⌃⌥⌘=
- Sign Selection: ⌃⌥⌘[
- Verify Signature: ⌃⌥⌘]
So, for example, to sign a message when I’m in Gmail, I highlight the text and the press
Control Option Command [
simultaneously
And (after entering my GPG password), the message will be signed.
